Our newest engine, the Apex I is an absolute beast. It's heavy, expensive, and drinks RP-1 like there's no tomorrow, but it will have the power to get even your most poorly engineered contraptions into space.

It dwarfs the Mage I engine in size, power, and visuals.

Here are the details:

  • Thrust: 3,200 kN
  • Mass: 3,500 kg
  • Price: $8,500,000
  • Height: 4.2 m
  • Diameter: 3.0 m
  • Max Gimbal Angle: 2.5 degrees
  • Fuel Consumption: 1,350 L/s
  • Specific Impulse: 298 s

Here's a bonus shot of it in a highly ill-advised use case.

Can anyone guess the inspiration behind this engine? I'll give you a hint, if you are on a PC, the name of the engine is on your keyboard...

@AtomicFerret007 It would require Simpleplanes to have to be completely reprogrammed.

I'm probably one of the only people to ask this question:
Why not combine SimplePlanes with SR2?
(I bet money has something to do with it......)

    @AndrewGarrison
Will there be little people in SR2?
If there will be people in SR2,will dropping one into a gas giant cause the Kraken to wake up (ksp people understand)

The name was taken from the escape button because Apex sounds like it and the Apex is also for eascaping Earth's pull

Will there be an engine in between the max thrust of the Mage I and this but slightly larger than Mage I?
    (cryogenic methane/lox is best)

F-1 engine on the Saturn 5 first stage. Uses RP-1 and LOX as propellant.

@JPGSP RP-1 Is a real fuel, but from these calculations I did, it seems to be different in density.

Hey! I know you probably don’t want to be too much like KSP, and I see you have a cost, but is there going to be some sort of career/contract system? If so, are the part going to be unlockable? Just thought it would be a good driver to the player. Cheers
