This weekend we demoed SimpleRockets 2 at the Pixel Pop Festival in St. Louis, Missouri. It was a great turnout and we had several people check out our booth and try the game out. It was a great opportunity to watch players use the game and see how they responded to it. It really helped us identify parts of the game that still need work and it also helped us to find a wide range of bugs. We have a lot of work to do to get the game ready for release!
Since many of you couldn't make it, we decided to make this video so you could have a virtual experience of our demo. Enjoy!
Also, here are some pictures we took at the event.
Are there plans for asteroids/meteors?
Is the first picture on the homepage art or in game? It looks like art to me.@AndrewGarrison
will there be a post today??
@Venus mhm
@JoshMan well yeah
@Venus Ya, with the Pixel Pop stuff I've posted weekly now for 3 weeks, so I'm giving myself a break from SR2 blogging tomorrow. I will make a blog post, but it won't have anything to do with SR2.
@Venus Don't get too excited for tomorrow...I'm actually not going to do an SR2 post. Sorry!
@matkag5 vomit you say? I mean I'm as excited as the next guy but... maybe talk to a doctor?
this is making me vomit over being ready to play when its out im so hyped :D
@Venus I disagree. No gas giants should have atmospheres that aren't blue. I don't mean the clouds, of course those can and should be brown for a jupiter-like planet. In addition, blue atmospheres on a brown planet creates a really quite beautiful somewhat contrasting color scheme. Also, even Venus' sky is blue from above the cloud tops! You can almost see some subtle limb-lighting of blue in your own profile pic.
Hi! I love the progress, the game looks really pretty, and I'm impressed with how it looks and how it appears to work! But I will say one thing: Jupiter (and indeed all of the gas giants) have blue atmospheres, not brown! It's because of rayleigh scattering, which is not unique to nitrogen/oxygen breathing mix. Mars' atmosphere is brown because of the dust, which Jupiter does not have, only clouds.
@WeSeekANARCHY Yes pushed back a bit because the overall excitment caused them to realize the game should be full 3d not a 2d game with 3d graphics, in a way the game got extended not pushed back.
Also did you find out who was the person who knew about it from the forums? Username?
If I had my own car I swear I would’ve been there
@Nooneoone well not exactly delayed but it's far behind schedule, the first time they announced the game they said it would come out in early 2018, now its pushed to 2019
@WeSeekANARCHY ok but later they should change. also its not delayed from what i know of. this is just the time they need.
@Nooneoone i agree, a new reply system would be good, but i don't care about it so much, let them work on the game it has already been delayed by a year
@JoshMan yes but if i want to read the comment associated with that reply i have to look for 100099876789097655467909876556787659999999999999 years.
@AndrewGarrison cool thanks. Hopefully no one finds a clever way to stack the flat solar panels ;)
@JoshMan Yes and no. Solar panels won't work in the night time (when the planet is between the craft in the sun). They take into account distance from the sun and the direction of sunlight. So if the sunlight is directly hitting a panel, it will absorb 100% of the solar radiation. If the panel is angled to the sun, then it will be the cosine of the angle. However, we don't take into account if the panel is in the shadow of the craft itself. Too much computation for realtime simulation.
@AndrewGarrison, will solar panels only produce power when the photocell texture is in the light?
@Nooneoone you can either type
@username
manually or click Reply on a comment by the person you want to reply to.can you make the reply system on this website more intuitive please
I wish I flew down to St. Louis if only just to thank you for making this game. It looks incredible. Of course, this would be the only booth I would be at!
@Venus
When falcon heavy booster was flying around gas giant and moving during warp, it is on 2x or 3x or what?
I think it was around 1,000x or 3,000x
And will the egg Easter’s be in mobile?
We can't say! That would
And is there plan for robotic arm like insight and is there plan for another command pods for unmanned mission?
No robotic arm, but you could fashion it yourself. We have a Command Chip part that you can put on crafts when you don't want the extra bulk and cost of a full Command Pod.
And is there a plan for scanners and camera like sp? And antenna??
Cameras, yes. Antenna, not initially but we could add that if players really want it. What do you mean by scanner?
And can we place a engine at any angle?
Yes
Will be there at least one asteroid?
Not sure yet.
And Is there science mode plan and it will be in sr2 after early access?
At some point, we plan to have a career mode with research so you can unlock other parts.
