Hectarus is the innermost gas giant in the Beta Virginis star system. Hectarus is very similar to Halkanna, only being about 4.7 percent more massive, and Because of the many similarities between Hectarus and Halkanna, they are often called twins. Heat from Beta Virginis causes strong convection currents in the atmosphere, with powerful jet streams forming along the edges of convection cells. The vibrant red and white belt structures are created by ammonia forming bright clouds high in the atmosphere on the cold side of convection cells, the ammonia clouds obscure the red tholin cloud layers deeper in the atmosphere. The gaseous belts are usually very stable and symmetric except for the 1st red belt in the southern hemisphere being divided into 2 when the northern red belt is continuous. Hectarus' strong magnetic field and its relative proximity to Beta Virginis creates 3 strong Van Allen belts with a 4th belt appearing during periods of strong solar activity. Hectarus also has 5 large moons of which 3 orbit inside Van Allen belts.
