A hot lump of sand, at the brink of supporting life, underneath the sand and rock is a sub-surface ocean, held at immense pressures under the weight and nearly becoming a hot ice.
It used to have large oceans until solar winds broke through the magnetosphere, stripping it of most water, luckily this happend fairly long ago, giving it time to recover.
