Hecate is the first moon of Hectarus. Hecate orbits near its Roche limit and is dramatically stretched into an ellipsoid. Hecate is very volcanically active and its surface is covered in volcanos and lava flows. The volcanic activity is most intense in the middle of the ellipsoid, where the crust is stretched thinest. The surface near the middle of the ellipsoid is covered by rivers of solidified lava with the edges consisting of less metamorphic rock. The edges of the ellipsoid are also coated by yellowish dust consisting of sulfur compounds that was ejected during past volcanic eruptions. Ions ejected into orbit around Hectarus by volcanism are a major source of Hectarus' first radiation belt. Hecate also has an orbital resonance with the 4 other major moons around Hectarus.
