It's better firstly to compress image into 16k equaterial map and split this image into six 4000x4000 cubemaps and after experiment with higher resolutions.

@TheScarletKing Yes, I've downloaded that image before. It is a 46080x23040 equirectangular projection image which can be, after using GDAL to convert it to an 8 bit PNG, theoretically be split into six 11520x11520 cubemaps. I say theoretically because it would use 2.3GB of RAM by itself, and even more because it needs to use the CPU to decompress those textures on the fly. Btw, I use the word albedo (or diffuse map) for the biome map, and the word height (or displacement) for the terrain map.

I'm founded a very high detailed albedo(bump) map for Mars but it larger than 2 GB and must be changed from .tif to .png - https://astrogeology.usgs.gov/search/details/Mars/GlobalSurveyor/MOLA/MarsMGSMOLADEMmosaicglobal463m/cub

Hey man, I'm having problems with placing the planet correctly, as it appears inside the Sun, do you know how to solve that? (even the costum setting of the orbit of the planet don't work)
