The idea here is that the player (or craft) can choose the roll angle that the craft "locks onto" when locking onto things like prograde/retrograde, up/down, target/anti target, etc., and that the player (or craft) can lock onto a specific heading, pitch, and bank angle, or enter an (x,y,z,w) quaternion when they select the lock icon in the navigation window.

@darthgently, by locking onto Quaternions, the heading, pitch, and bank would all be locked. If you just locked onto things with the Nav-Sphere, the heading and pitch would be locked, but the bank would be unlocked.

I'm trying to picture a heading staying constant when banking. I could see being able to lock either a heading or a bank angle in the lock, along with pitch, and the auto pilot manipulating the other unlocked component, heading or bank, to maintain the locked component?

I must be missing something then. I don't see how heading and bank could both be successfully locked in the physics sim as banking changes heading in an aircraft in flight. That is what I was getting at. If I'm not seeing the forest for the trees, sorry
