Tires skidding mid air/space

When doing a jump on the smoon in my pimped up rover, I found the wheels would randomly gain traction mid-jump and leave a skid mark hovering above the moons surface. To reproduce:
1. Load Sandbox
2. Control "Rover"
3. Max throttle (many power)
4. Try and jump, it's not that hard
5. Watch when it's in the air for any sudden changes of direction and skid-marks appearing
It seems only to happen at certain attitudes.
