The "Lock Heading" setting remains active with old settings on the vessel after EVA'ing out and returning. Toggling the Lock Heading setting afterwards causes the the two lock settings to conflict and the vehicle controls start fighting themselves to remain on two different courses.
The solution is enabling "Replicate commands" in the Control Settings of both parts.
