Project Orion

Project Orion was a proposed way to use small nuclear warheads as a rocket’s propulsion. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled due to the nuclear test ban. The spacecraft used nuclear bombs that detonated behind a pusher plate that was connected to the craft by large suspension pylons. Supposedly, the ship could reach Mars within four weeks. This would be an awesome engine for large heavy crafts. The plates were to be manufactured in different sizes for medium, large, and extra large vessels . Some even believed that the drive could be used for interstellar travel.
