This suggestion has been made before, albeit on a post with multiple suggestions on it. This is why I'm making a separate suggestion for the batteries themselves. I just found myself running constantly out of battery on a propeller plane and stacked up a lot of downscaled command pods until I got enough power. It works but it's not the best solution.

You can turn a Fuel Tank into a battery by changing its fuel type to Battery in the part properties.
