What is airglow?

Airglow (also called nightglow) is a faint emission of light by a planetary atmosphere. In the case of Earth's atmosphere, this optical phenomenon causes the night sky never to be completely dark, even after the effects of starlight and diffused sunlight from the far side are removed. This phenomenon originates with self-illuminated gases and has no relationship with Earth's magnetism or sunspot activity.

I was wondering if it would be possible to create this visible effect of the atmosphere during the shadowed part of the planet (night) on planets like Droo and Earth. When you cross into orbit on the dark side of the planet, there’s really nothing to see except a dull black sphere, so all that’s left to look at is the skybox, which isn’t how it works in real life.

I believe it wouldn’t be too complex to implement, though it would likely take the team some time and hinder progress on other things. After all, this is an atmospheric effect that, at the end of the day, the game already has mechanisms for creating various types of atmospheres. This is more of a visual effect. For instance, during the day, the atmosphere has several layers of white and blue hues, and then when you transition to the dark side, this effect would create layers of colors like green, red, and blue.

"This effect wouldn’t just bring more realism to the game but also enhance players' immersion, especially when exploring the night side of planets. Additionally, it could delight those who enjoy capturing in-game images and videos, making visuals even more stunning and faithful to real-life space exploration."

I know the team is extremely capable of doing this, but I also believe that for the game to continue growing, you need to be more open to the community and accept diverse and good suggestions from us players. So, if you, moderator or Jundroo team, are reading this, know that this is why we’re still here today. And in my case, I truly believe in the game’s potential. After all, if I didn’t see value in it, I wouldn’t have purchased it not just for myself but also for my friends.

Thanks for reading.
