I heard that plasma engines could be faster than ion engines, because they heat up the ionized propellant, then accelerate it using magnets. Since the propellant is a hot gas after its thrown out the engine bell, it should expand like a chemical rockets exhaust, plus the momentum of the hot plasma will generate thrust.

    @KellyNyanbinary But instead of we have nozzle to fit inside the ion engine so that it can expand well then the engine will not heat up easily and also can fire for months.

    These will erode the engines faster (due to all the heat), so they couldn’t fire continuously for days or months.
