As custom solar sytems are getting more and more complex and planet builder is appearing over the horizon, this could be a simple feature to drastically increase performance for lower end devices.

    @zeropol good points, it would obviously only apply to moons, with the idea that large systems around planets wouldnt clutter up the map view and would only be visible when you get to a distance, where you would need to see the orbits for encounters, and it could also just be a setting that is disabled by default and could be activated when wanted.

    Planning burns can involve having distant objects ( from the map view perspective ) of which you want to see the orbit.
    Also, what "close to" should be ? any view from a complete gas giant system may be scrapped from all the moon orbits ?
    While it is a good idea, it should be toggleable with the already present "map verbosity".
    I don't vote yet but I'm thinking of it. ( I fear the complete orbits view will not be available no more, but if toggleable it is a good idea, as you said, for low end devices or when flying CPU intensive crafts )
