Resizing heat shield on top of probe shows incorrect mass & head shield amt

Place a new heat shield on top of probe with advanced options menu closed in the part properties

resize while observing craft total mass on the right

after resizing, open the advanced options menu in part properties, and notice the shield's mass & heat shield amount. Often the heat shield amount and mass are WRONG, and as soon as you move the slider for the heat shield amount, it "jumps" to the correct value
