Make parts that can mine fuels, with minable fuels determined by a cubemap of the planet, and with sounds and animations for the miner. Make parts that can process fuels, with recipes selected in the craft designer, and with sounds and animations for the processor.
this might be heresy but regarding the part aspect I think KSP beats Juno, it has alot of stuff that while unnecessary for building crafts just for looks, might make for some good realism and improve the overall feeling of the game
