If an encounter is planned and the apoapsis is selected to create a new node the apoapsis will get smaller. If then the node is delted and this is replicated the apoapsis will decrease until collision.

    @pedro16797 Thank you, I'll check it out.

    @PhilipTarpley trying to replicate it I've found something similar
    simplerockets.com/s/5V18WV/Encounter-prediction-error
    In the sandbox it's expected a colision with Cylero, but as soon as you exit Droo-Luna esphere of influence the encounter periapsis changes to about 3Mm

    @PhilipTarpley I'll try

    @pedro16797 Ok, thanks a lot. If you could ever get a sandbox which reproduces this, it would be pretty helpful in nailing down the cause.

    @PhilipTarpley that's it. The first time it happened I had a 180km periapsis and made it go down until collision

    @pedro16797 Ok, so if I understand correctly, you are adjusting the burn node to where it is just barely missing the planet, then without adjusting the node you're switching between the nodes and eventually it will show up as impacting the planet?

    @PhilipTarpley I've deleted the sandbox since then, but it's happening to me in a new one youtu.be/ObiWHdaYH4c (i can't find how to add the link to text :/)

    @pedro16797 Are you able to reproduce that with this sandbox?

    @PhilipTarpley no problem with that. What I saw was that in a high speed fly by of Luna the addition of a maneuver changes the periapsis of the encounter.
    Deleting and adding maneuver nodes I made a 180km periapsis end in direct collision with Luna surface.

    @pedro16797 I'm not exactly sure what the problem is or how to reproduce it. Is it perhaps related to the time to periapsis?

    I'm going to close it as cannot reproduce for now, but feel free to try and explain it again...I'm sure there is something going on...

    @pedro16797 I talked with Philip about the split and that is not a bug. The orbits are rendered with a "hybrid" draw mode, which can make it a little confusing to look at, but it's not a bug. Someday we will give the option for players to change the current draw mode so they can switch to a view that makes a bit more sense and doesn't show the orbit split like this. We will continue to investigate the other stuff you mentioned.

    @AndrewGarrison WTF I always see them split that's not how they're supposed to be????

    Dev Notes: Taking the current set of planned burns and trying to add another inside of Smoon's SOI at the periapsis of the hyperbolic orbit whipping by Smoon, the predicted orbit splits in half. It's quite strange.
