I will walk you through how to rendezvous and dock and a few tricks on orbiting
Rendezvousing
First up, we’re going to talk about how to rendezvous.
Remember to set a target and have a low-eccentricity orbit around a planet or something, and make the craft’s orbit near your target’s orbit. Now when you and your target are almost next to each other, you gotta make sure your craft is just a little bit behind in it’s orbit with your target’s orbit. They have to be near each other on a sort of “closest approach” with each other. Now’s the fun part, you have to make a maneuver node near your craft but in front of it in it’s orbit, and increase the maneuver node’s prograde-ness until the little rocket icon turns green, that means the maneuver node will lead you inside the body’s sphere of influence. If you’re planing on a rendezvous with another craft in space the rocket icon won’t turn green, it stays white, so you gotta do it accurately yourself with the maneuver node. To match the speeds of your craft and your target craft, you have to change the velocity thing to “target” and point retrograde, and turn up that throttle bar until you are at the closest approach and the speed is 0 meters per second, using RCS thrusters won’t do any good if your craft is heavy. The accuracy of the rendezvous largely depends on the thrust and the type of fuel you’re using, you should not use liquid hydrogen or hydrolox because it delays when you change the throttle, especially from 100% to 0%. Also, do not use RCS to reorient your craft, it changes the orbit very significantly.
Docking
When you are all rendezvoused with a space station or whatever you probably want to dock. Now if your super close, like 5 meters, get further to like, 15, you may want to keep your craft from smashing into the space station while you move. Now turn off all your engines and turn on your RCS thrusters, target a docking port on the space station, and drift towards it. How do you translate? Well you click/tap the joystick icon and click/tap the icon with 4 arrows pointing up, down, left, and right. If your using a computer, well, you can just use the keys. If you forgot what keys to use, you go to the setting tab and go to controls, you can view what keys are for translation there. Now point to your craft at the docking port when you’re in front of it, like 15 meters or something. And make sure you are completely stationary relative to your target, then slowly float forward toward the target docking port, now when the come in contact turn off your RCS thrusters and keeps your hearing locked on the docking port, and wait for them to magnetically attach themselves. You can view the docking progression by clicking the icon with a box containing a few rectangles, you can see the delta v, the air density, the temperature, and change the auto pilot. Now that your docked, you can go about refueling or adding a module or something.
