I'm confused on how the rewarding works on career.
What's the difference of Reward and Signing bonus?
If you succeed, how to compute your reward?
If you failed, how to compute your losses?

I made an excel spreadsheet just to track my missions and money.

Rewards are usually given to those who work exceptionally in the field to which they belong and their career depends on their field due to the PGCE Maths Assignment students are interested in this field to grow their careers in it. also, how does one get out of a price-softlock? i had to get rid of my first career save because i had gotten broke and literally nothing i had available would be able to fit the ~5k budget, not to mention that you don't earn anything when you're in debt

Signing bonus is the money you get when you accept the contract. It's usually 20% of the total contract reward, and you get it straight away.
Reward is the money you get after you complete the contract. It's 4x more than the signing bonus.
I think the only ways to fail a contract is to either go past the deadline or cancel the contract.
If you launch a rocket for the contract and it blows up, the contract doesn't fail, and you can retry it
