I am enjoying Juno New Origins so far, but how am I ever going to unlock the DSC if I have to land a rocket on the drone ship to do it?? (Contract 70, Raining Rockets). I've seen video of other people doing it, even downloaded a ship into sandbox mode that does it automatically, but I'd be delighted if I could even find the thing, never mind land on it. I have landed on Brigo successfully a couple of times, once in full dark even, but I am never going to be able to find and land on something that small without a lot more help. Which is a pity, because career mode is a great idea, but this cripples it for me.

I suspect Career Mode has only been tested by people who already know how to play the game and have had lots of practise. There are quite a few tasks that appear to be completely impossible to a beginner. The planes don't fly accurately enough to fly through multiple checkpoints, for example - even the stock ones are clunky and very hard to steer.

There needs to be a lot more help for total beginners.

You can try my rocket. It's not a pretty landing but it gets the job done - most of the time. https://www.simplerockets.com/c/Md8vGr/Ali-Pad-to-Droneship-Auto#

One more point, relating to earlier discussion in this thread about flying planes. The problem with jerky flying is mostly that the autopilot is broken for planes, and defaults to on. Every plane I have flown jerks up and down horribly if you don't manually turn it off.

And if you are flying with a game controller, you need to click the left stick down as soon as you are in the air, to change from yaw to roll, or you will struggle to steer. This, of course, is not explained anywhere in-game.

Finally I managed to complete the task, by downloading this craft, which does everything automatically :

Thanks to @joekalaam1980. And to everyone who has tried to help!

@Activatewindows thank you for posting that, but even with that ship the task is still impossible for me. Using your design I have managed to land on the drone ship close enough to trigger the "visited drone ship" landmark several times, but to complete the contract and thus unlock the DSC you have to put it right on the white dot, and I just can't do it. I have been trying for hours. It's extremely frustrating.

Most new players trying the game for the first time will go straight to career mode, get stuck very quickly, and give up, most likely. Career Mode clearly has not been playtested properly. You can run out of money in the early stages quite easily, and even if you get past that you soon get to tasks that have to be completed to progress, but aren't doable, like this one.

Most new players won't even find the tutorials hidden (and I do mean hidden) in sandbox mode. It's a shame because in many ways this game is better than "that other game", but it's let down badly by a lack of help for new players, and the poor design of career mode.

All I did for the mission was put a plane on a rocket and it worked well the rocket is on my profile is you want it

Build a VTOL plane, stick a rocket to it, done.

Hi jonstorm, I think you are way more successfull than me in any way, but maybe this little information helps a bit? I got contact to Evelyn Shotwell. This contact was delivered when riding fast grounded at about 111 m/s. She gave me a contract for observing the bayside of DSC 950 km far away from village town.

In current version 1.0.9, electrical plane is super OP compare to jet powered ones in term of thrust to weight ratio, wing load and endurance.

@t4zcomz Landing precisely should be easy if you have a shuttle like craft that can glide or simply put solid booster on a plane(do need heat shield to survive re-entry or with enough thrust to slow down so not heating up). then use parachute / thrust reversing in slow motion to stop rapidly before landing.

Drone ship Is on droo, I just started playing a month ago and fir the average player it's going to be super difficult. There are other space ship Sims but none compare to juno but with that being said, the complexity makes it great but it's a double edged sword.

@Jonstorm Yes, to use career mode crafts, the need to be made after career mode released because the fuselage was updates. What I meant by download a craft is, there are crafts that people have made for career that auto land on the droneship. I've seen one on discord server.

Those problems with the plane all sound like the plane is unstable. As for the wobble, it's probably the autopilot, but idk how to get it to stop the wobble.

The career missions are designed to teach you passively, but I agree, they don't have good tutorials.

@t4zcomz most downloaded vehicles won't launch in career mode. If I try I get the message "This craft has one or more issues and can't be launched at this time". When I look at the issues, I find a couple of hundred errors. Some are that it uses parts that I haven't unlocked yet, some are that various "modifiers" are "outdated" and need to be replaced. The Arrow 2.0 self-lander, for example, produces 190 such "issues" in career mode in my game. It works fine in sandbox mode, where I can watch it doing its thing (very impressive), but I am not able to diagnose exactly how it is doing it, except that it is using Vizzy, which the game hasn't taught me.

The stock SimpleTrainer produces eighty errors if I ty to launch it in career mode. I can launch it in sandbox mode, but like every Juno plane I have tried, it really doesn't fly too well. If I roll it it turns (sometimes), very slo-o-owly, while the nose gently drops. The only way to get a less gentle turn is to stand it on a wingtip and pitch up, whereupon it jerks round in chunks, trying to wobble back the way it came after each jerk. I am not using yaw. Pitching up is always very jerky - pull the nose up and it wobbles up and down several times before settling on a new flight angle.

Maybe it's a problem with my setup, but I don't think so as I downloaded it from Steam onto a brand new high end PC just a few days ago. The game runs very smoothly and doesn't glitch or crash.

I guess I could summarise my problems as 1) Career mode really isn't very good at teaching the game, frequently asking you to do things that it hasn't taught you; and 2) the planes don't work very well.

    @Jonstorm

you can't launch them in Career Mode, only in sandbox mode.

What do you mean? I'm able to do that

They won't turn smoothly, you have to roll them and then pull them up in a series of jerks

Are you talking about the yaw? When you roll and then pull up, does your craft roll back to level flight?
I'll check the stock craft out when I get home

@POTETOZ Do you mean the graphics settings? They are all already on High

@t4zcomz I can download someone else's rocket that can land automatically and I have done that, as I mentioned, but you can't launch them in Career Mode, only in sandbox mode.

I am finding that the "stock craft" that come with the game are equally hard to fly, so I don't think it's just my plane design. They won't turn smoothly, you have to roll them and then pull them up in a series of jerks.

@t4zcomz I agree. Sure, some of the missions are quite difficult - but they aren't impossible. I think it's also a matter of pacing yourself. You don't need the DSC right away. You can launch quite large rockets (quite cheaply) from the water launch site, so long as you ignite right away. The DSC is a late-game location, alongside the Luna base. It's nice and equatorial, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game if you are finding the challenge of landing on the drone ship too difficult. Also, there is no shame in downloading a craft if you just want to unlock the site. This is a single player game. There's no such thing as cheating.

Imo it makes sense. Being able to land in a specific spot is a difficult task, but not an impossible one. Using Vizzy makes it easier but it's doable by hand for those who want to try. If you really want to pass the mission, you can download someone else's rocket that uses Vizzy to automatically land on the drone ship.

Yes some of the flying mission checkpoints are hard and I use slow motion for it. But if your plane is hard to fly, it's most likely your plane that's the issue
