Today I finally got update 1.3.2 on mobile, which meant that two new and unique celestial bodies, the new skybox, and a few tweaks and stuff. Pretty much everything has already been leaked well ahead of time by either the developers or the community. However, by far the most intriguing, of course, is the latter of the two new celestial bodies: Cladh.
This is a grayish planet with really cool looking ravines filled with some liquid — we'll get to that later — with a thin (but "workable") and very cold atmosphere. Also, the devil's number, 666, pops up everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE on this thing. From the radius, to the gravity, to the SMA, to the eccentricity, hell I'm willing to guess that the soundtrack for it is 666 seconds long. Because oh yes, it has custom music too, first time we've had that since... what, the release of the game? We'll also get to that later.
Unfortunately, neither it nor Oord, the other new celestial body, which is in a far more accessible orbit around Sergeaa, have any extra stuff (e.g. landmarks or completable milestones for tech points), which is a shame because I was hoping for some juicy lore, but hopefully we'll get it in the upcoming updates or even the hotfix.
Let's take a look at the terrain. This is filled with a lot of planet building jargon so you can kinda skip it if you're not interested.
It's got some pretty cool mountains, not gonna lie. For the planet builders, I checked: it's a Billow perlin of 200 freq and 0.5 strength, with 7 octaves, 2.2 lac, and -0.4 gain (which seems to be an improved version of the "standard" mountain nose) alongside a fractal domainwarp of 1 freq and 0.05 strength with 6 octaves, 0.4 gain and 2 lac. The rest of it is actually pretty simple too, basically just a few billow noises, remaps, and expressions.
Here's where things get interesting, though: the two main terrain noises are named "Scars noise A/B", and the only biome is called "Remains" with the subbiomes "Soaked", "Compacted", and "Loose". I've heard a fan theory online suggest that Cladh may be (or have been) a living planet, which is supported by this evidence. Not only that, the liquid on the surface is actually dark red, not just black (this can more easily be seen if you have OP lights like I do), and it has a density of 1060 kg/m3, the same as human blood according to a quick search of mine. Coincidence? I think not.
Now for the part we've all been waiting for: the music. It's pretty creepy, but we'll work our way down to it. In orbit, it's basically just some low-pitch hum/drone, a bit eerie but actually kinda relaxing for me.
Above the surface, it becomes a bit more quiet but also has some more "detail", I guess you could call it that.
Around +50m ASL and below (right above the blood), though, things get very spicy. Some parts of the music have these deep, ominous, distorted "voices" added to them that make you think some kind of giga-zombie will emerge from the blood and try to maul your craft. That doesn't happen of course, but, thing is... these "voices" might be understandable. I couldn't decipher much due to the distortion, but one of them faintly sounded like a male voice saying "it's not the truth" or something like that. However, if we could get someone to rip the Cladh music from the game (or just recording it with all other audio muted) and then increase the speed and/or pitch, we could maybe get more answers.
In any case, this is all I have to cover about this mysterious planet on the far reaches of the Juno System. It's pretty much surface-level stuff, but I hope you at least got to know something if you were curious about it. And since this is pretty much confirmed to have lore contributions — being a strange anomaly detected at the edge of the system — we'll surely discover how it'll turn out in future updates. Maybe it'll cause some devastating change(s) to the system and completely change it around. Or maybe it's not so sinister after all, and we've just misunderstood everything. We'll see.
