For all those who like Andy Weir’s book The Martian, I have something you’ll enjoy. While the movie doesn’t do any justice to it, the book makes the Taiyang Shen sound like one of the greatest launch vehicles ever. The Taiyang Shen was used in the book to deliver the Iris II resupply package to Hermes and its crew as it flew by Earth, en route to Mars to save Whatney. An American Delta IX was to be used previously, but it had an in-flight anomaly, destroying the supplies payload. The Taiyang Shen was the only other Mars-capable vehicle at the time, and through an agreement, NASA was able to launch the Iris II on China’s largest rocket. The movie makes use of an Atlas 401 to portray the Taiyang Shen, even though that specific launch vehicle can’t send the Iris package to Mars. I don’t Want an Atlas V however, i want what the book portrays the rocket as. As this grand, enormous launch vehicle, with advanced technologies. I am offering a reward for whoever builds the most realistic Taiyang Shen rocket. Build what you imagine it to be, not what the movie shows it as. The reward, I upvote ALL of your posts. There will only be one winner. Happy building!
