Fluff:
The B-70 Gryphon was first introduced as a long range maritime strike aircraft, designed to internally carry large and long ranged supersonic shipkilling missiles long distances at high speed, designed to attack foreign carrier battle groups the Gryphon's size and cost rapidly ballooned. Although three regiments of the B-70 were procured the cost was such that to this day the precise value of the purchase is unknown.

In the modern era the high speed and flight celling of the Gryphon coupled with the large quanities of surplus B-70C aircraft allows startup space companies to cheap out of rockets, launching from a third of the way to space at a non zero starting velocity significantly reduces the size requirements of rockets although the biggests cuts come from reduced velocity lost to air resistance at sea level. The massive payload bay underneath the airframe allows the Gryphon to carry medium scale rockets without inflicting significant parasite drag allowing large loads to be carried at lower altitudes where thrust to weight matters less than thrust to drag, while the outsized engine arrays allow for an impressive speed greater than Mach three at altitude.
