leave between 15-20% feul in the first stage for landing depending on whether you want to boost all the way back to the launch site.
after the first stage seperates imediately switch to and perform the boost back burn the switch to the second stage and complete orbital insertion. Finaly switch back to the first stage and attempt to land it (this may take some practice).
you can put about 35 tons in orbit and recover first stage, if you do this i recommend only saving about 11-12% for landing as you will need less for the boostback burn.
Can put around 40 tons in orbit when fully expendable
