USSR N1-L3

The N1-L3 was the rocket used by the soviets in their attempt to land on the moon. The N1 only did 4 launches and each of them resulted in failures. The N1 launch vehicle had 3 main stages for taking the L3 complex to space. These were the Block A, B, and V. The L3 complex itself also included two more stages, the Block G and Block D. The Block G was used for trans-lunar injection and the Block D was used for lunar orbit insertion. The LK lander and Soyuz 7K-LOK spacecraft sat on top of the Block D. The entire L3 complex sat inside multiple fairings, keeping it protected during launch. The Block A first stage had 30 NK-15 engines arranged in two rings. The outer ring had 24 engines, and the inner ring had 6 engines. The Block B second stage had 8 NK-15V engines arranged in one ring. The Block V third stage had 4 NK-21 engines. The Block G fourth stage had 1 NK-21 engine. The Block D was powered by 1 RD-58 engine.
