A variant of the regular Starship, SpaceX's HLS Lunar Lander is a concept proposed for NASA's 2024 Moon Landing. This rocket is designed to serve as a reusable lander for NASA's Gateway moon station. And with its vast interior space, this vessel could also serve as a mobile moon base.

The SpaceX Lunar Lander carries 9 small side thrusters to lift it off the moon with minimal dust disturbance. It also carries 3 vacuum and 3 smaller sealevel engines, all propelled by methalox. This vessel also features a retractable docking port and RCS thrusters.

This vehicle is capable of reaching orbit without a booster, however because I wanted to give it the range to reach the moon without refueling, I placed it on top of a Super Heavy Booster. Once you reach the moon, I would recommend keeping it in space. Unlike its Mars variant, this rocket cannot tolerate the heat of re entry.

@Patelsh24 Why not gimbal the vacuum engines for the HLS?

@Politonno Vaccum raptors don’t have gimbal. Regular raptors give a high control authority

The sea level raptors are useless, they may not be in the final version I think.

@HSH 4 months later and it’s astonishing that SpaceX have gone far beyond what anybody expected them to do. Now they’re days away from possibly flying a prototype. Total badassery.

This was a pretty cool ship to land. And considering it definitely needs refueling before it actually burns to a lunar transfer (only had 1100m/s of delta v remaining when I did land), i’d say this is realistic.

@Doublehsh Because those versions of the Starship were intended to be able to reenter earths’ atmosphere and land. The current version of starship will have to stay in space as Musk gets the SN’s structurally sound enough to bear their own weight and the fuel inside of it.

@lordvader0219 Why does the one on SpaceX's website have wings?
    Btw. not too bad

@Doublehsh this rocket was modeled after SpaceX’s Moon Lander proposal. The moon lander variant of Starship doesn’t have wings.

Where are the wings? The one landing on the moon is the one I made... I think this is the older version.
