The Shaoshan 3 (SS3) electric locomotive is one of the second-generation electric locomotive models of the Chinese railway. It was developed by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works and Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute, building upon the mature experience of the Shaoshan 1 and Shaoshan 2 electric locomotives. The SS3 was successfully developed in 1979 as a mainline freight electric locomotive and was put into mass production in 1986.
