The ANNE!
In the early stages of the cold war, America and the Soviet Union were racing to make the most powerful rockets imaginable.
The Soviets however were lacking behind and the Americans stole an early lead on making a powerful Ground-To-Air Missile, The MM-3 Nike Ajax.
Konstantin Syord was put on the mission to make a capable rocket that matched the speed, and range of the American Ajax.
He came up with this design and codenamed it “Syord-1 ANNE”
It underwent several testing missions and passed every single one of them.
Also, it gained its nickname by Syord's daughter, Anne.
It was powered by 19 Katon Solid Motors, that propelled it at speeds of Mach 3.10, faster than the Ajax by 1.10 Machs! It had a straight vertical of 34km. Much higher than many missiles at that time.
It was mass produced to numbers 180,000 to 200,000. It was exceedingly cheap and easy to make unlike the American counterparts.
The Anne only stood at a height of 5.80 Meters, much smaller than the Ajax. Considering its height, it was alone, a much better missile than the Ajax.
It stopped production in the early 1980s and was replaced by better models.
“Size Never Matters!”
