This rocket succeeded the Aggregat A1 and A2 LOX/Ethanol rockets in terms of technology and replaced the A3 in being a scale model for testing technologies on the A4 (which would be militarized as the infamous V-2 ballistic missile). To say the least the geometry of all modern spacecraft started with the teardrop design of the A5.
It has a hidden parachute for recovery in the ocean (land landings will destroy it) and a gyroscope to represent the guidance system.
