After months of development...

JSO presents...

The Sparrow 3!

The Sparrow 3 is an auto-reuse rocket that will land right back at the launch site at landing pad B. It can carry up to 50,000kg to a 300km orbit. In every test I have done it landed safely and on target. The stages are connected only by a single docking port so in the future the boosters can be truly reused. The Sparrow 3 has a 7-engine booster and a 2-engine upper stage both powered by methane and liquid oxygen.

Note:

This is only version 0.7. Later versions will include custom landing legs, improved code, and the ability to be re-stacked. I have also noticed a problem where after switching back and forth between crafts, sometimes half of the American flag gets hidden behind the fuel tank for some reason. This will be fixed in the next version.

This has a fairly high part count, but I was able to run it on my phone pretty well on high settings. This should be mobile friendly, but on some devices it might not run as well. On mobile I have found that it is less consistent. Sometimes it misses the entry burn and fails.

Enjoy!

After further testing on my phone, I have noticed that sometimes there are certain things that it is too slow to do in time and messes up the code. The next release will fix this, but until then if you have problems, try turning down your graphics settings and making sure part lift forces is on.

Thanks to SmurfResearchX for the help with the stage separation (I did not add the @ so that it does not ping them)

If everything goes well the drone ship version will release on Friday.

Edit: I have already got the drone ship version mostly working, so instead I am skipping the 0.7 drone ship version and going right to the 0.8 version- the main change will be the ability to select any landing zone you want- LPA, LPB, or the drone ship. If I get them done in time, it may also include custom landing legs.

    @kittman It uses Lat/Long/AGL coordinates

@kittman Thanks! What device are you using? I have noticed that it is more likely to miss the landing in slower devices. Also, did you have part lift forces on? (That is assuming by LP you mean launch pad and not landing pad)

@kittman docking ports allows him to attach a second stage, whereas a interstage can only be used once

Beautiful! Great job. Your series of Sparrow launch vehicles has come a long way dude. It's awesome to see the progress you've made!
...thoughts, some of which are quite sarcastic in nature. 🤪
    1) my booster landed almost, but not quite, in the middle of the LP. (sarcastic)
    2) yours is not the first time I've seen a docking port used for stage connectors. Is there a reason/benefit using docking ports for staging vs. an interstage?
    3) any plans to make a drone ship version? (sarcastic)
    4) it's cool to see that the booster is as targeted as it is. Out of habit I launched S3 from Runway 27 instead and while the booster was on it's way down I began to wonder if I screwed up by not launching from one of the launch pads, but apparently it doesn't matter as it actually does return to the LP instead of not returning to a location based on the launch site. I've been curious but have never asked, that I can recall (but my memory is shot after years of overuse). How are you doing the targeting? coordinates? whatever it is, its quite cool. 😎
Great job! now to see how big of a shipping box I can get into orbit...
