As the SSU embarks on its journey, they are developing sounding rockets in the Starlight Sounding (SSo) side program. Here is the SSo's first craft, the A1. Complete with a launch platform, this is a fun craft for just sitting back and watching it fly. Note: Vizzy included, so you don't have to touch anything. Also, the launch platform is very heavy and because of the staging mechanism, the first stage info will be wacked out. Simply disconnect the platform to get the right first stage info.
The A1 Rocket:
The A1 rocket is a beast in sounding terms. At a weight of 32 tons, it is heavier than any other, but its 196kN of first stage thrust will send this thing rocketing (litteraly Lol) with a starting TWR of 5.65 at the launch pad. The more modest second stage has 8.81kN of thrust, only getting you about 0.6x TWR on startup, but is optimized for efficiency in a vaccum. with a total of 4.33km/s of Delta V, it can actually possibly reach orbital speeds.
The Payload:
The A1's payload is a rather large payload meant for observing conditions in space using its multiple scientific parts. Named the SCOP, standing for Space Conditions Observational Payload, this payload weighs about 73kg, and costs a total of 18k.

I know what you guys are thinking. If it has 4.33km/s of Delta V, shouldn't it be able to get into orbit? I've tried. I haven't been able to.

Note: the total delta v and mass information in the performance section above are incorrect, because, like said in the description, the way the stages are set up and the emmense weight of the launch tower decrease I a lot.
