The fuselage design surrounding the engine is specially designed to offer maximum performance for afterburner turbofan engines.
The aircraft, by default, is quite demanding to pilot since if the speed and angle of climb are not taken care of, the engines can stall, there is a special control to handle the Inlet vanes to avoid this effect. if having 100% efficiency of the Inlet is not always good and more so with turbofan engines, its operation is quite different from that of a pure turbojet. Regarding the bypass rate, there is quite a difference since the turbofan engines work in the subsonic limit. So literally the inlet and the motor are designed and prepared to operate with these restrictions. (Inlet efficiency is reduced from 100% to 93% although this improves afterburner propulsion, removing that restriction creates loss of propulsion, these data were obtained in practice).
Despite being a large engine, it has a good ratio of consumption and power, although at the moment it is sought to develop a smaller one for a future design, it should be emphasized that the fuselage taken is only a test bed and not a final operational design.
