N1-L3 WIP
The N1/L3 was a Soviet super heavy-lift launch vehicle designed to compete with the Saturn V of
United States for landing the first man on the Moon. intended to deliver payloads beyond low Earth orbit. the N1 has the most powerful first stage to ever liftoff and has a capacity of 75t in its earliest incarnations and up to almost 100t in its final iteration. It will use the same lunar orbit rendezvous approach just like its American counterpart Apollo for the L3 Complex atop the N1.
The rocket failed in its four launch attempts and even destroying the launch pad in the process on its second flight. The lack of support from the government and underlying technical difficulties have taken a toll on the development of the booster. The death of its designer Sergei Korolev dealt the final nail in the coffin on the Soviet Lunar Program. The N1 program was suspended in 1974, and was officially canceled in 1976.
Much like its real life counterpart, my N1/L3 rocket was to be composed of five stages namely:
Block A (First Stage)
Block B (Second Stage)
Block V (Third Stage)
Block G (Earth Departure Stage)
Block D (Lunar Orbit insertion and Lunar Descent)
Note: Block D was intended to descent to the Moon along with the LK Lunar Lander, after expending all of its fuel, it will detach and crash on the moon. Meanwhile the LK lander continues it descent to the surface and use its own engine to land.
