The mighty Saturn V...Cartoonified
The Cartoon Saturn V is roughly to scale, fully functioning, and moderately detailed with a few creative liberties. :) It is also entirely vanilla.
Photos that I took during a test flight.
Note: Set Slider 2 up to 100% before launch. Set Slider 2 up to 100% immediately after taking control of the Lunar Module as well.
Stages and Instructions
AG 1 for abort.
- Throttle 100%. Slider 2 100%.
Stg. 1: 5 F-1 engine ignition
Stg. 2: S-IC detach
Stg. 3: Skirt detach
Stg. 4: 5 J2 engine ignition - AG 8 LES Jettison
Stg. 5: S-II detach
Stg. 6: 1 J2 engine ignition - 80-100km LDO. TLI burn, collision course with Luna.
- AG 9. Wait 3-4 seconds and stage.
Stg. 7: SLA Jettison
Stg. 8: CSM detach from LM and SIV-B - AG 6, activate translation mode for transposition and docking.
- AG 10. Position camera to view inside the upper section of the SIV-B. Manually activate orange interstage to release SIV-B.
- Maneuver docked CSM and LM a small distance from the SIV-B.
- Throttle 0%
Stg. 9: 1 SPS engine ignition. - Prograde burn for 100km Luna fly-by. This should be relatively precise, but anywhere between 95km and 100km should be fine. The CSM and LM should pass by the leading edge of Luna to enable a free return trajectory and follow a "figure eight pattern."
- Take control of the LM using bracket keys. Slider 2 100%. AG 7 and AG 2.
Stg. 10: DPS engine ignition - Descent stage is relatively tight on fuel so be sparing.
- After landing, deactivate AG 2.
Stg. 11: APS ignition and descent stage detach. - Immediate pitch to 45 degrees due west.
- After reaching orbit, AG 5 for RCS. Rendezvous and dock with CSM. Timed correctly, docking within one orbit is entirely doable.
- Undock from CSM and use remaining fuel and monopropellant in ascent stage to deorbit.
- Take control of CSM. Prograde burn timed correctly so that after reaching escape velocity, trajectory should be directed retrograde relative to Droo's orbit. * This stage has the most leeway in terms of excess fuel.
- Once in orbit around Droo, make small correction burns using remaining fuel or monopropellant. Aim for a Periapsis of 30-40km.
- Shortly before reentry, activate AG 1 to detach Command module from Service module.
- Directly before deploying drogue chutes, unlock heading.
- AG 3 for drogue chutes.
- AG 4 for main chutes.
- AG 2 for capsule hatch.
For abort, AG 1. Pitch roughly 45 degrees. After nearly reaching Apoapsis, AG 8. Parachutes follow with AG 3 and AG 4.
Lastly, enjoy! If you have any questions regarding this craft, I am happy to help. :)
