Its elongated tail boom houses a Magnetic Anomaly Detectors (MAD) that can be used to detect and localize submarines operating submerged by their magnetic field.
The P-18 albatross is capable of holding up to 25 people but is normally crewed by a flight team of 5 members, pilot, co-pilot, 2x sensor technicians (ESM and Sonar), and a flight engineer.
The P-18 is capable of carrying ASW and ASUW ordinance to complete the entire kill chain from detecting to engaging a hostile target.
