Interim project of Buran with two air-breathing engines
The OK-92 layout replicates the layout of the Shuttle and OS-120 due to the similarity of the requirements for their payload, lateral maneuver range, cargo compartment dimensions, and composition of the main systems. The OK-92 is a low-wing, tailless design with a double-swept wing and vertical tail . The craft, 36.5 m long, had a double-swept wing with a span of 22 m and an area of 210 m2 . The elimination of three cruise liquid-propellant rocket engines made it possible to "refin" the contours of the tail section and reduce bottom resistance, which led to an increase in aerodynamic quality. Elevons, a trim panel, and a rudder are provided to control the craft in the atmospheric portion of the flight. In the exoatmospheric section, control is performed by a system of liquid-propellant rocket engines for control and orientation, located in two groups - in the forward part of the fuselage in front of the crew cabin and in the tail section in two side engine nacelles. The final delivery of the OK to the satellite orbit and the change of its parameters are performed using two liquid-propellant rocket engines for orbital maneuvering.
