The VK 45.01(P) was a heavy tank prototype developed by Porsche for Germany during World War II as part of the competition to create the Tiger I. It featured a unique gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain, where a gasoline engine powered electric generators that drove the tracks. Despite its innovative design, the VK 45.01(P) faced reliability issues, particularly with its complex drivetrain, leading to its rejection in favor of Henschel's VK 45.01(H). Only about 90 chassis were produced, many of which were later converted into Ferdinand/Elefant tank destroyers, known for their heavy armor and powerful 88mm gun.
