X-71

X-71 is a Fictional Space shuttle based on Michael Bay's Action Sci-fi film, "Armageddon". It is a Classified Orbital vehicle made for the collaboration of NASA and United States Air force. It consisted of 2 sister ships, OV-030 Freedom and OV-031 Independence. Both had modifications and Advanced technologies compared to their Original Space Shuttle counterparts. Their origins are highly classified. Some theories speculated that they were made in the mid 1980s during the height of the cold war, as part of Reagan's Star wars project as these shuttles are commissioned to be as a Orbital Scouting Vehicle to eliminate Intercontinental weapons and Spy Satellites.

Sometime before the events of the film, a top-secret joint venture between the United States Air Force and NASA was approved to create a different type of space shuttle. The project yielded two shuttles which were the Independence and the Freedom. It is unknown what project that the shuttles were for prior to the Asteroid Dottie appearing. Knowledge of the shuttles was kept secret between only NASA and the United States Air Force. However, events would soon put the shuttles into the public eye.

After the tragic loss of the NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis in the beginning of the film, Independence and Freedom were suddenly thrusted into a mission to save the world from a killer asteroid. Throughout the mission, Both Independence and Freedom flew side by side, often raced through the low lunar orbit to slingshot towards the trajectory of the asteroid. Until Independence sustained damage due to the debris and dusts colliding with the vehicle, After the loss of Independence, Freedom is on its own as it made its attempt on landing on the surface of the asteroid. After hours of work, Freedom launched itself from the asteroid moments before the detonation of the Asteroid, with the loss of dozen men, including one who detonated the Nuclear Bomb in the Asteroid.

Aftermath

X-71 Space Shuttle OV-030 Freedom eventually lands back to the Kennedy Space Center in florida with greater fanfare and celebration, months after its successful return, the crew and its shuttle became celebrities, but even if Freedom has managed through the mission, its Existence and Appearances causes curiousity and confusion, leading to speculations and questions about the Origin of this vehicle. So the shuttle went hiatus and returned to being a classified Vehicle by the USAF. eventually it was finally sold to NASA as part of a Replacement for the loss of NASA's Space Shuttle Atlantis. it was Integrated into a Lunar Space Shuttle for the Constellation Program and is currently under Orbiter Maintenance Down Period for Overhaul. along with X-71 in OMDP is the Space Shuttle Columbia after it sustained damage during its launch and initiated a RTLS back in 2003.
