General Dynamics F-16XL

An experimental version of the F-16A Fighting Falcon, The XL was General Dynamic’s answer to the U.S. Air Force’s Enhanced Tactical Fighter Program (ETF), competing directly with McDonnell-Douglas’ F-15E Strike Eagle. Featuring a cranked-arrow delta wing design, the XL could carry roughly double the weapons payload of the F-16A on an incredible 29 hard points, all while having 64% better range.
The F-16 was originally designed as a cheaper alternative to the Air Forces new F-15A Eagle. Designed to work alongside the Eagle by the “Fighter Mafia”, the F-16 was designed to be an air superiority fighter. While an excellent fighter, F-16 had many limitations as a multirole fighter. The XL, while sacrificing slightly in maneuverability, fixed the shortcomings present in its predecessor. The XL had an elongated fuselage and a new cranked-arrow delta wing. Featuring 50 and 70 degree swept wings. The XL had excellent performance at low and high speeds.
The delta win produced significantly more lift than a traditional wing design and because of this the XL had an impressive payload capacity relative to its size. Ultimately, the air force adopted the F-15E for several reasons, mainly being overall performance and ease of manufacture. The two XL’s were tranferred to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) where they would serve as test beds for extensive research into aerodynamics. Officially retired in 2009, both F-16XL’s are stored at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

• Bomb hardpoints are armed from inside the cockpit
• Hardpoints that are suspended below the wing are in conflict with each other. You can have either the smaller hardpoints, or singular heavy hardpoint, but not both.. unless you’re a cheater.

Everything is preconnected. Move hardpoints by setting translate tool to .5 and moving them onto the wing with the translate tool. Then connect used hardpoints inside VIZZY
