After a half-year long hiatus of replica craft making, CRSA presents you with a new replica craft, with all of the craft made by me and not some other person, here it is, the SCORE spacecraft on an Atlas B!
Info about the craft:
SCORE (Signal Communication by Orbiting Relay Equipment) is the first communications satellite ever, launched on an Atlas B on Dec. 18, 1958, at 7:02 pm GMT-4. The satellite receives data, records it and retransmits it. It's also very secret, initially having 35 personnel even know the mission itself. The satellite is actually the whole atlas rocket without its half stage. Since the communications equipment are on a modified nosecone fixed to the Atlas and the antennas are placed all around the Atlas. The craft was also called "The Talking Atlas" or "Chatterbox". It's also known for transmitting President Eisenhower's Christmas message. It's also one of the Atlas B hotrods, using the Atlas C Equipment pods. Last contact happened on December 30, 1958, and orbital decay happened on January 21, 1959.
Activation Groups and Inputs:
Rocket:
• AG2: Turns on/off Booster Engines
• AG3: Separates and rotates the launch supports off the rockets, as well as to activate a stage
Input:
- Slider 1: Retract All launch supports
• AG4: Turns on/off Sustainer Engine and its gimbal system for the exhausterator/aspirator shroud
• AG5: Extends a hidden piston and activates 2 interstages to extend the half stage to where it can't hit something at separation (must hit next stage immediately after like .3, or half a seconds after (man, I should update this one)
• AG7: Executes the Launch Sequence
Launch Pad:
• AG1: Rotates Crane Arms
Inputs:
- Slider 1: Lower arm
- Slider 2: Upper arm
• AG2: Extends crane rope with sling
Input
- Slider 1: Extend crane hook and sling
Notes:
The Sustainer and Booster Engines ignite only once.
To make the crane lift something like a part, use a tether.
The Exhausterator actually gimbals with the Sustainer Engine using 2 hinges.
Communications Equipment is stored in the nose cone.
There's 3 cameras, one launch pad camera and 2 onboard cameras, 1 to show staging and one to show where the equipment is stored
Don't mind the launch support arms phasing through the craft. It's purely because of how slow the craft takes off from the ground or at least from the point it is at before the arms were released
Creator Notes:
This is the second craft of 2024 that I fully made and is a replica. I'm just happy to come back from this hiatus. I will post more crafts than last year if I can, so craft posts may be more frequent now. Sadly, the atlas rockets are going to be about 230% larger than the real one because of a 2 year old mistake that I can't revert now without spending many time on it, let alone just making it a 2:1 scale. Sorry, guys. :(
Thanks for reading this description! Upvote if you like the craft. And that's all, bye!
