The culmination or almost 15 years of technological development, the Vampir is what has resulted from Weltraum Korps’ FWKI (Fortgeschrittener Multirole-Kämpfer I, or Advanced Multirole Fighter I) progam. This highly classified project began as early as the 1960s, when the government was still in transition from private corporation to full on country.
The program outlined 3 important goals:
1. Versatility
being a military in infancy, the FNA had little time to develop and produce individual CAS, Air Superiority, and Reconnaisance aircraft. Instead, the burden would be placed on a singular aircraft decent enough at each of these roles.
2. Technology
With limited airports and factories to house and produce the new aircraft, the FNA came to the conclusion their new aircraft would need to be a decade ahead in common technology to make any real impact in the air and on the ground. Lack of numbers would need to be made up for in performance and cutting edge design.
3. Unmanned capability
Drone technology was in its infancy when WK first outlined their design goals. However, with much less manpower than the average military, WK had to place crew preservation and drood safety at its utmost of priorities. The decision was to take a huge gamble in focusing the new aircraft entirely around this promising new field. Although 15 years has not yielded a perfect or totally ideal result, the drone interface WK has designed is plenty adequete for most combat situations.
Despite meeting or excelling on almost all of these objectives, the Vampir is extremely new and perhaps even too far ahead of its time. Fuethermore, the rushed development following in the wake of the 7-Hour War has left a very vague outline of weapon systems. Integration of such unspecified systems will likely require procurement from other nations, and designs will be far from universal. Therefore, the Vampir is still considered very much in the prototype phase. With growing international tensions however, it is clear any fighter is better than no fighter, so weapons, although necessarily retrofitted, will be adequete.
