Activation Groups:
6: Navigation Lights and Radiators
7: Automatic Roll Correction
8: Automatic Pitch Correction
9: Gyros
10: RCS
Tips:
Don't turn on any activation groups until payload separates from launch vehicle.
Note that gyros can slightly change orbital properties (apoapsis and periapsis) because they are not centered.
Note that RCS monopropellant runs out quickly.
It is best to separate the payload, wait a bit for the station to make some distance from the second stage. Then enable 7, 8, and 9.
Once the craft has the right attitude, disable 7, 8, 9, enable RCS and use it to get to a 100x100 km orbit.
Once you are in the right orbit, re-enable 7, 8, and 9, then enable 6. Then, your station is ready!
Lore and Thoughts:
Starhome 1 is the first part of a large space station with permanent habitation modules to be built in Low Droo Orbit. The next planned part will contain an artificial gravity ring. By the end, it will also act as a fuel depot. Once you get to Droo's orbit you are halfway to anywhere, after all.
The payload itself was sort of inspired by Skylab. I saw images of the astronauts in Skylab flying around in a large 0g environment and thought that it looked like a much more enjoyable place to be in than the cramped ISS.
Miscellanea:
Big thanks to @Frolonov for helping me with some Vizzy vector code.
Also, I'm grateful for @Brixxter and their skybox replacer mod, which allowed me to get that beautiful looking galaxy in the images. The galaxy is called Pood's Calm Nebula and can be found on SpaceDock.
