This is a project I've had in mind for just about a year now. I kept it quiet and only shared the thought with a few people because I wasn't sure if it would work out. I made some proof of concepts and verified that theoretically, the project was possible. I even did start the project shortly after verifying it was possible [old image I took of it], but the motivation very quickly faded, as I focused on other projects.

After finishing my Delta IV family of rockets, and revamping my Vulcan family of rockets, I decided to come back and restart the Atlas V project completely. I redid all my research and investigation into the Atlas V and all its configurations. Unfortunately, I did not include the HLV or hammerhead fairing variants; mostly I just didn't feel like incorporating the HLV as it would make things a bit more complicated, and would look goofy on launch with it clipping into the SRBs (the hammerhead fairing should be more than obvious why I didn't do that).

Here's an explanation of how the Configuration Key Works.

If this graphic doesn't make much sense to you, I recommend checking out ULA's configuration key on the Atlas V webpage or the wikipedia page

Here's a Demo video

Features:

You can choose which configuration to fly for your perfectly tailored Atlas V launch

Auto-Launch Code
  • Made in collaboration with GoldenShadowGS, this craft is equipped with an auto-launch code. As of V0.9.905, this code should be functioning on mobile now. If there are any issues you come across please say them in the comments.
Realistic Staging events
  • SRBs

  • Atlas Booster

400 and 500 Series Fairings each with 3 different length options

  • Payload clipping with other fairings that are not intended to be flown is not an issue

Many thanks to Pedro and 1nsanity, for their collective help of many hours and continued support. Without them, this probably would have just become another unfinished project.

Very cool idea and so well done!

@CosmoGamer46 You can remove the mass simulator, and connect your payload. It's a little difficult to navigate with the fairings there, so I suggest going to the parts lists and hiding them. You can search 4M and 5M, and if you have it to list all, you can hide all the fairings.

@ChaoticGraviton hey can you make the Vulcan Center because that would be cool?

I'm aware of that, that comment was a joke
Mostly because I really love the half-stage Atlas

@DragoranosSR2 That would be pointless, and fairly convoluted. This was more of a proof of concept to show that it could be done if desired. The Atlas V happened to be a great platform of a rocket to test this with, because of it's simplicity as well as it's wide range of variations.

    Hmmm

Why not go the extra mile and make a ridiculously configurable atlas rocket where it's possible not just the Atlas V, but also a SM-65, Atlas LV-3B, Atlas-Able, Atlas-Centaur, Atlas G, Atlas-Agena, Atlas I, Atlas II, Atlas III... list goes on

@Samps0n I'm not sure what you mean

I was up until that moment, thinking it was an algorithm that worked with the single orbiting ability, but the way it was worded led me to believe that is may be realistic. You have uploaded a command chip that does the program you said, ‘orbital solutions’, I think, Now if I stick that on any rocket with the ability to meet the requirements of the orbits and make it the priority commander , will it propose the ag1 prompt at the onset of launch hr as in reference to your common launch inputs Or does must it more likely include more, like the ag sheet being filled like your Altas’s series or even more customisation? Any lvl outside the complete programing pg? Also Vizzy& funk tree, I assume are associated with the root program for this parameter, is this iPad Pro friendly or pc only? Is there a place to educate myself on the programs

@Samps0n I don't think it's an issue on your end, the other rockets aren't really meant to send things around the moon. However, when I get to posting my vulcan rockets, those should be able to do it.

You may need to be patient for a min or maybe 2 while it configures , it will tell you when it is ready tho. @ImWorld

I know I’m the new guy buy Bravo to you and your development team! The TLO ability is great, first time I have gotten one of your creations to do so, but mobile and new guy so maybe user error

@VLS4 That's to do with the difference in color pallets. You would need to change it on the rocket to work with your payload. In other words, once you have imported your payload, you need to recolor it using the pink colors.

This is absolutely awesome! Amazing job, do you know if there is a way to get rid of that pink and transparent coloring when a payload is imported?

@ImWorld You need to either Press AG1 which will do both of them in order, or you need to press AG11 to configure, and then AG12 to start the Auto-Launch
