This is a 20T to LEO rocket with a fully autonomous, reusable first stage. The booster will perform the lift off, ascent, stage separation and boost back burn all on its own. After boost back burn shutdown, if the rocket is carrying a payload, take control of the second stage to boost it into orbit. Just make sure to retake control the booster before its entry burn at 45km altitude!
This is the latest in a series of automated rockets aimed at perfecting guidance, navigation and control software. The current algorithm can target a landing site with sub-10cm precision. This is in preparation for an upcoming fully autonomous Starship, Superheavy and Chopstick system.
STAY TUNED!
NOTES:
-Please don’t touch the controls during booster ascent as this may result in an unrecoverable trajectory
-To select between a Drone Ship or a Launch Site landing, open the code and switch the “DroneShipLanding” variable to either 0 for Launch Pad, 1 for Drone ship or 2 for the heli pad because why let physics be a thing!
-Different payloads (up to 20T) can be added by replacing the 20T fuel tank on top of the Soyuz interstage inside the fairings.
-The default code assumes the rocket is launched form Droo Space Centre

@fastplanesforjunofun yeah crazy thing is I had to offset the coordinates cos the target isn’t in the exact centre of the drone ship. Looks like we’ve found the lifespan for falcon 9😂
-
Also SpaceX’s booster sort of fell over this morning and caught fire

@CFXA you may need your own command module on your payload too.
-
@CFXA sounds interesting! Yes, the rocket is vanilla but makes some use of the tinker panel to make the drag scale more realistic on the booster tanks and heat shield. The fairings can be adapted, and new payloads are fine as long as they weigh around 20T. The rockets ascent trajectory is calibrated for a 15 - 25T payload but should still be ok if the payloads weight isn’t too far off. Maybe use the drone ship as this offers more performance. Let me know how it goes!

i realy vant to use this for a space station project i have been vanting to build

vill making the fairing big and changing the payload affect its autonomous vizzy?? (sorry i dont have double u key)

@fastplanesforjunofun all self-written. I wanted something smother and more realistic than other rockets I could find so decided to start from scratch. Still room for improvements though. The current script has the rocket approach the pad going straight down whereas I’m expecting superheavy flight 5 to approach from roughly a 60-degree angle. That thing is just crazy!

@LaunchRocketsForFood did you get the code from YouTube or did you make it yourself
-
@LaunchRocketsForFood Nice! I’m a huge fan of Starship and I can’t wait for that 5th flight test with the booster catch soon!

@fastplanesforjunofun thanks a lot man, much appreciated! Didnt add this earlier but you can change the landing sites too. If you go into the code and change the Drone Ship Landing variable to “0 “ (Large landing pad), “1” (Drone ship) or “2” (Helipad). Am planning on a fully reusable automated Superheavy chopstick system which will include grid fins providing I can solve the aerodynamic issues. If you know of any good models, preferably with low part counts including the tower, lmk!

I have tried lots of auto reuse rockets that land on the drone ship and out of all of those only yours has worked! I am really impressed. Keep up the great work!

@LaunchRocketsForFood Ha ha!!
