The Mars Polar Lander is a lander for the Mars Surveyor '98 but as you expect, it actually failed too, the most acceptable reason of failure is the vibration the landing leg makes being mistaken for a landing and then the engines cut off at 40 m (Radar Cutoff Altitude) and crashes at 22 m/s. It was launched by the Delta II 7425 to Mars on a mission to land on the south pole of Mars. It also carried 2 microprobes called Deep Space 2, to test some technology and study the soil after it penetrates through the soil and they didn't use a parachute to slow down. They both failed too. To me the probes have no use in SR2. To have a good reentry, closest approach must be at about 19.7 km. The Cruise Stage has RCS for trajectory and orientation corrections. It has fixed solar panels with an extendable solar panel. It does have the Deep Space 2 probes. It has all the instruments just in case you want to do the landing if it was successful. To land without a crash, at landing, turn off AG 8 on the lander or remove the crash code and replace it with the other code I put and set the ag on the wait until to AG 8 on the lander. You may press add flight program when you press the lander chip to edit the codes. This one craft brings some updates to the rocket to stay forever. Also for the capsule, It has a parachute cap, the parachute, the jettisonable heat shield, and an interstage to jettison the lander. The lander has 3 landing legs, 3 clusters of 4 landing engines, every instrument that it had, a Descent Radar, a Descent Imager, and 2 solar panels. I actually almost cancelled this mission but I decided to continue the mission replication. It actually has some weights on the PAM-D and it's activated by pressing Extend Weights and it's actually powered by a vizzy code. Make sure to activate the weights (AG 8 on the Cruise Stage chip) if the PAM-D and the craft is currently rolling and finished it's burn. The launch is vizzy controlled too and activated by AG 7 so if you don't want the code, remain launch sequence off. By the way, paint the other line (shown in the 5th picture) gray like the others because it's a bit white.
