t-40 Gecko ( Wheel Driven Land speed record)

The t-40 Gecko is a car built in 1962 it was named the Wild Duck by the maintenance crew and the driver. the t-40 Gecko had an Allison t-40 mounted in the rear. The Allison t-40 was fitted to the car with a series of gears connecting the 2 driveshaft to AWD.
The Allison t-40 made over 4,000 horsepower, the Allison t-40 was made for bomber planes at the time. It was also created in 1950. 12 years before the gecko.
The t-40 gecko was made with fiberglass and lightweight acrylic for windows weighing just under 20,000 pounds. It was not light but a lot of the weight was the engine and the gears connecting it to the AWD system. The t-40 gecko had a record setting land speed record at 515 Mph. The next fastest wheel driven car is the Vesco Turbinator which has a turbine engine. the final record was set on august 26 1965 by the t-40 gecko reaching 515 mph.
