The satellite itself is not exactly like the Vanguard 1 satellite. The actual Vanguard did not have any booster rockets attached nor did it have retractable solar panels and antennae. I had to add these features to attain stable attitude on orbit. Don't concern yourself with anything resembling a circular orbit. My orbit ended up being 950km by 128km. If you want to act out the first Vanguard attempt on 12/6/57, start the engine and then shut it down quickly. The rocket will fall back and explode. Activation Groups: 1 extends antennae: 2 pulls the umbilical tower back. Pull sliders down for both. Slider 1 antennae, slider 2 umbilical tower.
