HXN5 diesel locomotive is one of the trunk passenger and freight diesel locomotives in China's railways. This locomotive uses AC drive, developed by General Electric (GE) of the United States, and manufactured by CSR Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory through technology transfer. On November 1, 2005, the Ministry of Railways signed a contract with GE and Qishuyan, ordering 300 HXN5 locomotives with a total value of 450 million US dollars, of which the first two were built in the United States and delivered to the whole vehicle, and the remaining 298 were manufactured by Qishuyan with the assistance of GE. The first domestic locomotive was off-line on November 25th, 2008.
