It did it flew a fully autonomous mission with an almost perfect landing (dead center and touched down almost on the intended spot )and the energia flew one more mission before the USSR couldn't fund the program and shut it down @Acidnippz

Actually the buran is considered to be better than the American shuttle due to the fact it a) can fly fully autonomously b) it was planned to have jets so it could perform more than one landing attempt and c) the energia rocket used to get it into space could be flown without the buran shuttle attached @bfishing
