McDonnell Douglas DC-9

One of the most recognisable and prolific of the T-Tail passenger Jets, the DC-9 was the workhorse of various airlines from the 70's to early 2000s for short to medium haul regional routes. It's T-Tail, rear fuselage mounted engine design allowed for very low fuselage ground clearance that made passenger and cargo loading easier. It's relatively short take-off characteristics made it accessible to many regional airports that has shorter runways. It typically seats around 90 to 100 passengers in its unusual 5-abreast seating configuration in economy and has its own stairwell system in the rear which meant it didn't require airport gate facilities for passenger boarding. Many iterations of the Jet were created throughout the years - from the MD-80 to the Boeing 717 which was the final production variant borne from the eventual merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. Becoming globally popular plane in the heydays of air travel, over 2000 planes in all variants have been produced, from which just over 200 remain flying today.
